The shoot brief
Eight fields, twenty minutes, and the reshoot does not happen. Fill it in here and we will email it to you.
How this works
Neon Frame Creative is a UK creative media studio, and this is the brief we write with clients before any shoot: eight decisions taken at a desk rather than on site with the light going.
01
Fill it in
On this page. Nothing is required except the five fields a brief is useless without.
02
We email it to you
As a page you can forward to whoever is shooting it, or print and take on site.
03
Reply if you want us to read it
A copy comes to us. Reply and we will come back with what we would make.
Would rather work in your own tools? Take the plain markdown version. The long version of why each field is there is in the article, and the licensing line in section two is unpacked in image rights in plain English.
What it asks
01
What the audience has to believe
The only line that determines everything else, and the one most briefs skip.
02
Where the images will be used
This sets crop, orientation and licensing. It is not admin.
03
Shot list, ranked
Something on the list will not happen. Ranking decides which, in advance.
04
The one shot the day fails without
It gets the best light, the most time and a backup plan.
05
People
Senior people give you twenty minutes and are late for it. Plan for twenty minutes.
06
Access, timing and light
Ninety seconds working out which way the building faces prevents a broken schedule.
07
Sign-off
Sign-off with no deadline expands to fill whatever time the project has.
08
Hard deadline
Not the launch date. The date files are needed in hand to hit it.
