Why podcasting deserves a place in your marketing strategy

Most marketing content fights for seconds of attention. A podcast earns hours of it.
That is the simplest case for podcasting we can make. While a social post might hold someone for three seconds and a blog article for three minutes, a podcast listener will stay with you for thirty minutes or more. Voluntarily. Often weekly. No other format in your marketing mix comes close to that depth of engagement.
And the audience is there. According to Edison Research, 42% of UK adults have listened to a podcast in the last month and 30% in the last week. This is not a niche channel anymore. It is where your customers already spend their time.
The authority play
Search engines and AI tools increasingly reward one thing above all else: demonstrable expertise. Google calls it EEAT. Experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness. It is the framework Google uses to decide whose content deserves to rank, and it is becoming the framework AI assistants use to decide whose content deserves to be cited.
A podcast is one of the most efficient EEAT machines a brand can build.
Think about what a podcast actually is. It is you, on the record, talking fluently about your industry week after week. Answering real questions. Interviewing credible guests. Building a public, searchable archive of your expertise. You cannot fake thirty minutes of unscripted conversation about your specialism. Listeners know it, and increasingly, search engines can measure it.
Every episode adds to the evidence that you know your field. Guests bring their audiences and their credibility with them. Over time your name becomes attached to your subject, which is precisely what thought leadership means when you strip away the jargon. It is not claiming to be an expert. It is proving it, repeatedly, in a format nobody can skim.
The channel that travels with your audience
Here is what makes podcasting genuinely different from every other content format: it fits into the parts of the day that other marketing cannot reach.
Nobody reads your blog while driving to work. Nobody watches your brand video mid deadlift. But podcasts go everywhere. In the car on the commute. Through headphones at the gym. On the sofa in the evening, where video podcasts are increasingly watched like television. In the kitchen while cooking. Walking the dog.
The research backs this up. Around half of podcast listeners tune in while doing chores and over 40% while commuting. Your audience is giving you their attention during time that was previously unreachable. That is not incremental reach. That is a whole new territory.
The rise of video podcasting extends this even further. Edison Research found that 72% of UK weekly podcast consumers now actively watch video podcasts, up from 58% in 2023. YouTube has just overtaken Spotify as the UK's most used podcast platform. One recording session now serves the person listening in the car and the person watching on the sofa. Same content, twice the reach.
The gift that keeps giving
This is the part most brands miss, and it is where podcasting quietly becomes the best value content investment you can make.
A single long form podcast episode is not one piece of content. It is the raw material for twenty.
That 45 minute conversation contains the substance for two or three website articles, each one built on genuine expert insight rather than recycled research. It contains ten or more short clips for Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube Shorts, the kind of social and digital content that keeps your channels active without a blank-page brainstorm every week. It contains quote graphics, audiograms, newsletter content and LinkedIn posts. The transcript alone is an SEO asset, giving search engines thousands of words of relevant, original content to index.
This matters because short form discovery now drives long form listening. Sounds Profitable found that 55% of podcast consumers discover their next show through YouTube, with Instagram and TikTok close behind. The clips are not just repurposed content. They are the front door to the podcast itself.
Compare that with the usual approach. Most brands create every piece of content from scratch. A blog here, a video there, social posts written on a Friday afternoon. Each one starts from zero. A podcast flips the model. You create depth once, then distribute it everywhere. One recording day can feed your entire content calendar for a month.
What podcast production actually costs
If you have searched for podcast production companies in the UK, you will have noticed a pattern. Almost nobody publishes their pricing. Most agencies hide behind custom quotes, and when the numbers do appear they typically start at £2,000 per month and climb steeply from there.
We think that is a barrier that keeps good brands out of a channel they should be in. So here are our numbers.
Neon Frame Creative offers full podcast production from £500 to £1,000 per episode, depending on format and complexity. That covers the whole process. Planning and episode structure, multi camera video recording, professional audio, full edit, and the short form clips that put your episode in front of new audiences on social. You turn up and talk. We handle everything else.
At that price, a fortnightly podcast costs less than many brands spend on content that gets a fraction of the engagement.
How to know if podcasting is right for your brand
Podcasting works hardest for brands where trust drives the buying decision. Professional services, property, finance, education, health, B2B of almost any kind. If your customers need to believe in your expertise before they spend money with you, a podcast shortens that journey more effectively than almost anything else.
It also rewards consistency over scale. You do not need a huge audience for a podcast to pay for itself. A few hundred genuinely relevant listeners, the right guests and a steady stream of repurposed content will do more for most businesses than ten thousand passive followers ever could.
The brands that win with podcasting are not the ones with the biggest budgets. They are the ones who start, stay consistent and treat every episode as fuel for the rest of their marketing.
